An artwork in my own thoughts!

An Angel and Princesses

The Ongoing Logogramism of Love & Life Style

“Art is an expression of our thoughts, emotions, intuitions, and desires, but it is even more personal than that: it's about sharing the way we experience the world, which for many is an extension of the personality. It is the communication of intimate concepts that cannot be faithfully portrayed by words alone.” [1]

Since childhood, I have never dreamed of being a king or a prince even though I am a descendent of the lineage of the greatest king who ruled Earth [2] . My desire since I was a young boy in the third grade [3]  was to become a painter like Van Gogh.

Because I was also an energetic child, my other wish was to be like Batman and fight evil. I never dreamed of supremacy or leadership, but I always tried to imitate the angels who fight evil on the battlefront. I would have preferred to be a soldier (warrior) whose face is covered with dust and mud and his body is covered with blood and uncountable wounds. One of my role models was the Archangel Michael who is always fighting the army of demons and was the greatest warrior in the battle of good versus evil. A prince who lives a luxurious life followed by a crowd of other secondary princes and royalties was never one of my desires. Where is the pleasure in a life of luxury?

The real pleasure is in the art that opens uncharted worlds to me that no one has seen before or set a foot in it. On the other hand, fighting and dying to protect others whether a beloved woman or a vulnerable individual was one of my favorite dreams.

Now, after such a long journey in life, I have discovered that I am still a six-year-old child who did not grow one day older, and my dreams are still the same - an angel around whom a horde of princes revolve in a world of paintings and colors that no one has ever explored.

The details of the painting An Angel & Princes are derived from the ancient Mesopotamian Pictograph Writing System executed through my one-of-a-kind style (Logogramism) and unique mixed-media.

HOME ... The art that will be!

HOMELAND of LIFE

A homeland is not a specific map or land. It is also not the natives' deep and rich history, but all of that watered and salted with our forefather's sacrifices and achievements. ~ Amer Hanna Fatuhi

There is no doubt that no land on the face of the Earth could be compared to Mesopotamia, biblically known as the Land of Eden, simply because it is the Land of Firsts!

All of the old civilizations learned and borrowed from Mesopotamian knowledge and way of life in one way or another. Likewise, all of the known secondary colors originated from the primary colors: blue, yellow, and red.

It is no secret that I am quite fascinated with originality, therefore, the artwork HOME somewhat blurs the traditional red lines between paintings and sculptures. Using natural elements (wood and thread) to create a 3D painting, which could also be called a colorful sculpture, goes back to the cradle of civilization's ancient technique. It is considered a combination of using easy-abstain artwork that uses simple methods to depict a complicated idea.

The foundation of the artwork HOME is derived from the most ancient writing system known as the Pictograph (c. eighth millennium BC). This aesthetically pleasing 3D hanged artwork effortlessly gives the viewer a sense of beauty and is easily enjoyable due to the use of the distinct primary colors: red, yellow, and blue.

The entire artwork was developed from one Logogram symbol referring to Home and pronounced as Ki/Bit in the Sumero-Akkadian culture. It is like love; you do not need to talk for hours to express your love to your beloved. Instead, all it requires is sincere, deep eye contact!

Away from Paradise

Away From Paradise, the Bleeding Soul!

Although most art critics and art historians consider the woodcut as the oldest form of printmaking, the truth is that thousands of years earlier, the carved Mesopotamian flat and the cylinder seals that were pressed or rolled on clay to make copies are considered the oldest known printmaking techniques.

I tried that technique when I was studying at the Cuneiform Laboratory at the History Museum at the beginning of my 20s. However, using woodcut techniques and mixed media suits the art market's demands and is more appreciated by modern art lovers.

Woodcut printmaking also involves carving an image from the surface of a block of wood, rolling ink onto it, and taking an impression or print. However, this is not the case when I carve any piece of wood to transfer my thoughts and feelings onto the wood, because, with more colors on a flat surface as well as the carved areas, I am capable of using the wood base not only to make an impression but as the final artwork.

In the 1993 woodcut piece and its impression, I used three logograms (Moon, City, and Foot) with contrasting colors of Red and Green to express the exile of a poet from his homeland (Paradise).

This piece is considered among the very first pieces when I started using Logogramism in 1988 as the centerpiece of the work (as a subject and composition) in my artworks. In reality, it is not just an artwork but an important part of my bleeding soul.
